Purpose
To support and assist the Business Development & Marketing department to achieve the marketing strategy and help work towards Colchester Zoo’s mission of providing a first-class experience for all its visitors, whilst also furthering understanding and respect for animals.
Role Description
This role covers a wide variety of tasks as well as general office admin. They play a role in communication between visitors externally and staff internally by responding to general customer enquiries and creating communications to be sent to public and sending internal MEMOs to staff. This role also entails using reporting to review communications and performance and reporting to management.
This member of staff will be enthusiastic, passionate and have excellent communication skills to provide assistance to the Business Development & Marketing Team. This position requires someone who can work efficiently under pressure with good writing skills as they are key to be able to communicate with visitors and third-party companies, they also require a creative brain to bring new and exciting ideas to the team.
This role may develop in time with the view of the future requirements of the Charity and particular importance of focus on fundraising as well as assistance for communication with the Board of Trustees.
Role Responsibilities
- Assisting to maintain and manage the Zoo’s social media channels
- Being first-hand response for customer queries via social media messaging and comments
- Assistance with scheduling social media posts
- Completing E-letter statistics and sending reports on these
- Completing website analytics and sending reports on these
- Updating and administering the website and app via CMS
- Updating and scheduling digital screens via CMS portal
- Completing various monthly marketing reports from different platforms including social media and paid advertising
- Marketing communications internally using staff app and email
- Performing market research by researching products, experiences and events offered by other attractions to assist the team with proposals
- Analysing customer survey feedback and reporting on this to the team and senior management
- Assisting with marketing content to help populate publications and online marketing material
- Copywriting may be required to cover stories or create social media posts
- Copy-checking publications prior to print/publish
- Reviewing influencer requests and monitoring their interaction with us via social media
- Answering general marketing enquiries and monitoring the marketing inbox to direct emails to the relevant persons
- Researching and increasing our B2B relationships to encourage Corporate Sponsorships and Trade Partners.
- Researching and creating a mailing list for contacts to generate interest in group and corporate visits/sponsorships
- Using the Gateway ticketing system and producing reports when necessary
- Occasional assist with updating the Gateway ticketing system with new tickets, amending prices and general upkeep of the system
- Using Tevalis system to create and send reports
- Monitoring Colchester Zoo’s presence on third party sites to make sure all information is accurate and up to date.
- Assisting with graphic design office tasks such as ordering laminate, paper & ink
- General office duties including filing, printing, laminating, photocopying etc.
- Completing general admin for the marketing and design team
Personal Specification:
- Experience of working in an office environment
- Work effectively and efficiently to deadlines
- Knowledge of design software such as photoshop is desirable
- Creative and able to use their own initiative
- Open to new and different ways of working
- Able to work well as part of a team as well as individually
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Organised and able to multitask
- Interested in the tourism and hospitality business
- Passionate about their work
- Desire to learn within the marketing environment and take part in marketing tasks as well as other development roles.
Working Hours
This is a full-time position working 40 hours, Monday to Friday. Some weekend and on call cover may be required.
Applicants must be available to start no later than February 2025.
Uniform
Black smart office wear with black trousers and shoes.
Evaluation
For the first five months of employment, the jobholder will be asked to complete a one month, three month and five month self-assessment. This will gauge their feelings of the job and assess their progress towards meeting targets.
