We are delighted to introduce you to our new resident female Linne’s two-toed sloth arrival, Midnight!

Midnight, aged 7 years old, arrived at CZS from Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park on 12th March 2025 as part of a breeding recommendation. CZS is already home to three Linne’s two-toed sloths; two males called Tucurui and Calypso, and one female named Carmen.

Calypso and Carmen live together at Rainforest Walkthrough and Tucurui has welcomed Midnight into his home at Worlds Apart. They can all often be seen sleeping in odd places and making a mess with their food!

We hope that the arrival of Midnight will eventually lead to offspring and help our sloth family grow. To allow her time to settle into her new environment, Midnight was out of public view for a while, however she has now begun interacting with our male, Tucurui and can be seen by visitors at Worlds Apart.

Famous for being slow and spending their lives upside down, sloths are a firm favourite among many. The Linne’s two-toed sloth is found across central and south American forests, spending most of their lives in the upper levels of the tall forest trees and rarely venturing to the dangerous forest floor.

Did you know?

Sloths rarely drink water as they get all of their required moisture from the juicy plants they consume.

Sloths have a slow metabolism due to their low energy diets, but the lack of energy helps them to move slowly and not be noticed by predators. Although this species is classed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, the overall threat to the populations is habitat destruction for logging.
