On the 16th July 2025, we welcomed the arrival of two female lion-tailed macaques, Kizzy and Jade.

Following a breeding recommendation from the EEP (EAZA Ex situ Programme) Coordinator, Kizzy and Jade arrived from Fota Wildlife Park in the Republic of Ireland.

Both Kizzy, who is 22 years old, and Jade, who is 15 years old, have settled in well and the Animal Care Team are pleased to say both girls have been getting used to their new surroundings and have successfully mixed with resident male, Connor.

Jade is the most confident of the two and seems to be closer to Connor. However, after observing the group, the Animal Care Team are delighted to see the group are all getting on well together.

Kizzy, who is the smallest arrival enjoys sitting with Jade and Connor, however she is also quite content on sitting on her own. Both females have been engaging in various enrichment activities and have also built a good relationship with their care team.

The lion-tailed macaque is currently listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, so the support of this species is vital in order to grow conservation efforts for those out in the wild. We hope that Connor will eventually breed with one of the females to help increase the population of this incredible species.

The lion-tailed macaque group can be seen in their habitat at River’s Edge so be sure to pop by to see new arrivals, Kizzy and Jade and whether love is in the air!
