Two new dinosaurs have arrived at our Dinosaur Realm! Step back in time and learn more about the Archaeopteryx and Stegosaurus!
Archaeopteryx
ark-ee-OPT-er-ix
Meaning: ‘Ancient wing’
Watch out for the blue dinosaur – it may be ready to take flight!
Archaeopteryx had many small, coned shape teeth believed to have been perfect for eating small reptiles, mammals or insects. Similar to the birds of today, the Archaeopteryx had broad feathered wings and a body around the size of a magpie!
Stegosaurus
STEG-oh-SORE-us
Meaning: ‘Roof lizard’
From the armoured to the theropod, see all types of dinosaur from the past!
With a herbivorous diet, and as a large, slow moving dinosaur, the Stegosaurus would have used its powerful, spiked tail to defend itself from predators. In most fossils found of the Stegosaurus, the plates on its back are separate from its body. This is because rather than being attached to the skeleton, they were instead embedded into the skin of the dinosaur.
