Our Maintenance Team are currently updating our sea lion habitat for some very exciting new arrivals!

Built in 2003, our sea lion pool remains one of the largest saltwater pools in Europe, and over the years, has become a favourite destination within the Zoo. Our team are currently making improvements to this much-loved area with upgrades that will help to enhance the visitor experience as well as provide our new arrivals with a suitable and enriching habitat.

The beach area has increased in size and will feature a new covered space to provide shade in the warmer months. The off-show indoor houses are also getting an upgrade to make it easier for the Animal Care Team to interact with the animals during training sessions and health checks. Furthermore, our plumbers and electricians are working to improve the state-of-the-art filter system, which will filter the half a million gallon pool every 2 hours.

The public viewing areas will see a makeover to improve the accessibility for all visitors. Larger windows will be installed to help our younger guests view our new arrivals. Interactive activities will also be introduced and improved signage will be in place to encourage all visitors to learn more about these fascinating animals.

All of this work is being carried out by our incredible in-house staff from the Maintenance and Education departments to our Marketing and Animal Care Teams. Keep an eye on our social media channels and website for all updates and some very exciting announcements!
