Here at Colchester Zoo, we are home to many loved-up couples amongst all of the different species within our care
– here are just a few that we have caught on love-cam!

Abasi & Anika
Cheetah
Over the past month, you may have noticed two of our cheetahs, Abasi and Anika together. The pair have been showing positive interactions, with Anika showing her playful side. We are hopeful that these behaviours will eventually lead to cubs in the future.

Chile & Pepper
Humboldt Penguin
Humboldt penguins are monogamous and typically mate for life. Chile and Pepper have had a successful couple of years after welcoming Jalapeno and Tabasco back in 2023, and hatching a further two chicks, Salsa and Taco, last year.

Lae & Qiwen
Pileated Gibbon
Our female pileated gibbon, Qiwen, arrived back in May 2023 as part of a breeding recommendation, and has been slowly settling into her new home with our male, Lae. The pair have developed a great relationship and can quite often be observed grooming one another and singing to each other.

Crispin & Esra
Amur Leopard
On 24th November 2024, our critically endangered Amur leopard pair, Crispin and Esra, welcomed two healthy cubs. This is the pair’s second litter after their previous cubs, Lena and Luka, who were born in September 2019. Amur leopards live solitary lives and only come together for breeding.

Copper & Lewis
Coppery Titi Monkey
Did you know that coppery titi monkeys entwine their tails with loved ones so they don’t loose each other whilst sleeping? It was love at first sniff for our coppery titi monkey pair, Copper and Lewis, who welcomed their first offspring on 13th June 2024 after being together for 5 months.
