UPDATE (17.04.25):
We are deeply saddened to report that one of our white-lipped tamarin babies unfortunately passed away on Wednesday 16th April 2025. This can sometime occur with first-time parents unfortunately but we are awaiting results of a full postmortem to determine the exact cause of death. The other twin is currently doing well still and will be monitored closely by the Animal Care Team.
We are excited to announce the arrival of twin white-lipped tamarin babies!
In 2024 we announced the return of white-lipped tamarins to Colchester Zoological Society after 15 years! Bonnie arrived here from Ústí nad Labem, Czechia in February 2024 and Jack arrived from Hanwell Zoo a couple of weeks after in March 2024. The pair settled in well and formed a bond quickly.
On the 12th March we were lucky enough to welcome the arrival of two healthy, white-lipped tamarin babies. This is Bonnie and Jack’s first litter so they are new to the wild life of parenting. However, we are pleased to say that both the twins and Bonnie and Jack are doing really well. The Animal Care Team are delighted that Bonnie has been great at taking up her duties as a new mum and has been very attentive to the twins. The new family are all doing really well and we look forward to sharing new updates and announcing their names in the near future!

Although white-lipped tamarins are currently listed as ‘Least Concern’ on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, their home is currently under threat from deforestation.
