We are delighted to have achieved a highly commendable score of 89% in our first VisitEngland Quality Assured Visitor Attraction assessment, reflecting a strong foundation of operational excellence and visitor satisfaction.

The assessment highlighted the Zoo’s broad range of visitor facilities, catering outlets, play areas, and seasonal events, which all enhanced the overall experience. The assessor also praised the high standards of presentation, customer service, and animal welfare which reinforces CZS’ reputation as one of the leading zoos in England.

VisitEngland’s Quality Scheme sets the standard for tourism businesses across the country. Assessors visit attractions in person, and the assessment process covers every stage of the visitor journey. They look at accuracy of information provided, the welcome received on arrival, the condition and cleanliness of facilities, the quality of catering and retail products, and the friendliness of staff.

Every attraction that is awarded the accreditation, must meet the requirements of VisitEngland’s National Code of Practice. This includes accurate marketing, clear pricing details, consideration of accessibility, good signage, safe facilities and excellent service.

It’s been nearly a year since we transitioned to a charity known as Colchester Zoological Society. Each and every visit made to CZS contributes to not only the continuous development of the Zoo, but also to vital conservation projects worldwide. Whether you make a purchase of Admission Tickets, Adoptions, Experiences, Annual Memberships or by simply donating through the Zoo’s website, without your support, CZS wouldn’t be able to help care for wildlife and wild places.
