We are delighted to announce that on Saturday 9th May 2026, coppery titi monkey, Copper, gave birth to a single offspring. The Animal Care Team are pleased to report the family is doing well.

Mum, Copper, arrived at Colchester Zoological Society (CZS) in January 2024 from Belfast Zoo, while Dad, Lewis, was actually born here at CZS in August 2020. Back in June 2024, they welcomed their first offspring, Benji, who remains with the group and is showing a keen interest in his new sibling.
Usually in this species, when a single offspring is born, the father acts as the primary caregiver, and so the baby is likely to be seen clinging to Dad, Lewis. Did you know, this species is highly affectionate; they even intertwine their tails when they sleep together at night!
While listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species unfortunately, this species still faces a number of threats out in the wild; they are often killed for bush meat and caught for the pet trade. Therefore, this birth is excellent news for the European breeding programme and for the conservation of these animals.
Be sure to stop by Worlds Apart on your next visit to see our new family!
