We are proud to announce that we have been awarded ‘runner-up’ in the 2026 Sustainability Award from the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA).

Each year, BIAZA celebrates the outstanding work of zoos and aquariums across the UK and Ireland, with industry experts judging hundreds of entries covering activities from supporting native frog recovery to vulture stem cell therapy.

We received the award for Cross-Sector Collaboration for Sustainability, recognising the incredible partnerships we have built with our local communities and organisations to drive positive environmental change.

Over the past year, we have brought together representatives from schools, parish councils, community nature groups, and partner organisations to share knowledge, develop strategies, and inspire practical action for a greener, more sustainable Essex. From supporting local nature recovery to building community networks, these collaborations demonstrate the power of working together for the benefit of both people and wildlife.

This award is a celebration of everyone involved. We would like to extend a huge thank you to all the organisations, volunteers, and participants who have supported our sustainability journey and share our commitment to creating thriving communities for nature.
